Truffles Bakery sausage roll review

About Truffles Bakery

Truffles Bakery reminds me of London. When I lived in Clapton, my flat was close to a Percy Ingle bakery and I’d visit on the weekends to buy bread, donuts and sausage rolls. The food market on Chatsworth Road would be running and the street would buzz with people taking pictures of their lunch. Although tempted by the food stalls, I’d often aim for the bakery, drawn by the comfort and predictability of buttery pastry. Like Percy Ingle, Truffles Bakery isn’t trying to do anything fancy, they serve the classics and do them well. It’s a place to go for a decent cake, pastie or a loaf of bread.

1. Appearance

Did the sausage roll look appetising? Was it lovingly displayed in the shop window?

The sausage rolls were beautifully presented in a warm case. I stared longingly through the shop window whilst queueing.

2. Price

How much did you pay for it? Was it good value for money?

£2.20, what a bargain.

3. Packaging

Was it carefully wrapped? Did it arrive home intact?

It was handed over in a paper bag with tasteful branding.

4. Weight

Did it have a satisfying weight? Was it reassuringly dense?

It had a good weight, it wasn’t a beast and I knew I’d be able to tackle with ease.

5. Warmth

Was it warm and ready to eat or cold on arrival?

Wonderful warmth for a cold day. It was just at the right temperature for immediate tucking in.

6. Pastry

Was it buttery and flaky? Did it hold together?

Surprisingly good pastry. It had lots of layers, good flavour and a bit of crunch at the corners. This was a lot like a Percy Ingle sausage roll.

7. Quality of meat or filling

Was the filling substantial or did you mainly chew air?

Nice smooth filling, I was impressed, not a suggestion of gristle.

8. Flavour

Was the sausage roll delicious and well-seasoned?

Good flavour. It was pork and apple but a bit light on the apple or black pepper. Very nice still.

9. Satisfaction

Were you left satisfied or wanting more?

This hugely exceeded expectation, I will be back.

10. Bonus Points

Did anything warrant bonus points? Eg. a little pot of mustard or friendly service from the staff?

Really friendly staff, a delight of a place.
