Ricci’s Deli sausage roll review

Ricci's Deli sausage roll

About Ricci’s Deli

Ricci’s Deli on Dyke Road is a beautiful shop. Despite the plethora of fancy bakeries in the immediate vicinity, Ricci’s stand out for their signage and window displays. Inside, they sell a huge array of produce, from drinks and breads, to meats and cheeses. On the day that I visited, I was at the tail end of a long walk and arrived sweaty and tired. I’d passed the deli in the morning at the start of the walk and my expectations had built throughout the day.

1. Appearance

Did the sausage roll look appetising? Was it lovingly displayed in the shop window?

A neat little pile of sausage rolls were sat inside a display case facing out to the street. There was a small chalkboard sign displaying the price.

8/10

2. Price

How much did you pay for it? Was it good value for money?

£2.25 was a good price for what looked like a delicious sausage roll. The deli seemed very fancy, especially as I was sweaty and tired.

7/10

3. Packaging

Was it carefully wrapped? Did it arrive home intact?

Classic white paper back with a shocking amount of grease transfer. The grease soaked through the back and four napkins.

6/10

4. Weight

Did it have a satisfying weight? Was it reassuringly dense?

It had a good weight and had the correct proportions. It was a long and slender sausage roll as opposed the chubby ones that I often get.

7/10

5. Warmth

Was it warm and ready to eat or cold on arrival?

By the time I got it home it was warm and inviting but the server blasted it in the microwave and at first it was too hot.

8/10

6. Pastry

Was it buttery and flaky? Did it hold together?

This was a greasy sausage roll. The pastry was buttery and tasty but it had been overheated in the microwave.

7/10

7. Quality of meat or filling

Was the filling substantial or did you mainly chew air?

It was a meaty filling with good colour. There were visible herbs and little bits of onion in there.

7/10

8. Flavour

Was the sausage roll delicious and well-seasoned?

Top flavour, classic pork and sage but a little lacking in pepper.

7/10

9. Satisfaction

Were you left satisfied or wanting more?

I felt filthy afterwards, it was far too greasy.

7/10

10. Bonus Points

Did anything warrant bonus points? Eg. a little pot of mustard or friendly service from the staff?

Nice shop and in a good location for capturing the passing trade. The offer to heat it up was welcomed but i came to regret it.

4/10
