Revelator is a quaint and cosy pub in a lively part of Hove. They have decent beers, abundant spirits, comfortable seating, rustic decoration and a quality soundtrack of laid back tunes. I went for post-work Friday night beer and was delighted to discover that sausage rolls were being served alongside a wide variety of salty snacks. Every pub should stock Twiglets.

Did the sausage roll look appetising? Was it lovingly displayed in the shop window?
I didn’t see the sausage rolls before I bought it but they were advertised on little laminated menus.
How much did you pay for it? Was it good value for money?
£2.25 felt reasonable for a homemade sausage roll.
Was it carefully wrapped? Did it arrive home intact?
It wasn’t packaged as I was in a pub but it was handed over on a small plate with napkins. The presentation was good.
Did it have a satisfying weight? Was it reassuringly dense?
It had a bit of heft to it, more squat than long.
Was it warm and ready to eat or cold on arrival?
It came straight from the fridge and there was no offer to heat up, so this compromised the flavour.
Was it buttery and flaky? Did it hold together?
The pastry was good but would have been better warm. The pastry on a cold sausage roll ends up being soggy.
7. Quality of meat or filling
Was the filling substantial or did you mainly chew air?
This was a pork and chorizo sausage roll with red and spring onion. The ratio of sausage to roll was perfect.
Was the sausage roll delicious and well-seasoned?
This would have been top marks if the roll had been warm.
Were you left satisfied or wanting more?
I was pretty satisfied overall, the snack went well with a cold pint of pale ale.
10. Bonus Points
Did anything warrant bonus points? Eg. a little pot of mustard or friendly service from the staff?
Friendly staff, nice pub and good music.
