About The Pork and Jalapeño Sausage Roll
I’d visited to the Brighton Sausage Co. many times before but thoughts of their pastry propelled me forward, as I braved the bracing Brighton weather. Town was busy with hordes of slow moving strangers, out in search of Christmas bargains and as I moved with the crowds, I passed numerous people, tucking into tubes of steaming pastry. Heroes, I thought.
In a slight deviation from the classic flavour combinations that grace my reviews, I opted for a Pork and Jalapeño sausage roll. Travel to Mexico might be off the cards but deliciousness remains on the menu.

1. Appearance
Did the sausage roll look appetising? Was it lovingly displayed in the shop window?
The sausage rolls are always nicely displayed here. A little pile of them was stacked by the till and as I entered the shop, I squeezed past a group that looked longingly at the cheese displayed in the window.

How much did you pay for it? Was it good value for money?
£2.20. A bargain for a top quality roll.

3. Packaging
Was it carefully wrapped? Did it arrive home intact?
The sausage roll came wrapped in a brown paper bag and I tucked in as soon as I left the shop. No napkin was offered but it wasn’t greasy.

4. Weight
Did it have a satisfying weight? Was it reassuringly dense?
There was good density and weight to the roll. I knew from past experience that one was enough to ward off hunger and two was too many.

5. Warmth
Was it warm and ready to eat or cold on arrival?
It wasn’t as warm as I’d have liked and there was no offer to heat it. I’d have appreciated a warmer roll to help fight the chilly weather.
4/10
6. Pastry
Was it buttery and flaky? Did it hold together?
The pastry held together nicely but wasn’t quite as buttery or flaky as before. Again, heating up the roll would have helped.

7. Quality of meat or filling
Was the filling substantial or did you mainly chew air?
The pork filling was nicely ground and chunks of Jalapeño were present throughout.

8. Flavour
Was the sausage roll delicious and well-seasoned?
The sausage roll had a lovely flavour; the Jalapeño gave it a bit of heat and the pork was well-seasoned. I didn’t feel it needed sauce and I wasn’t left thirsty.

9. Satisfaction
Were you left satisfied or wanting more?
I was mostly satisfied but would have liked a warmer roll. Despite that, it was still a top snack.

10. Bonus Points
Did anything warrant bonus points? Eg. a little pot of mustard or friendly service from the staff?
Maximum bonus points for the delightfully friendly staff and the wonderful window. It’s easy to spend money in there.
