Croque Shop sausage roll review

Croque Shop sausage roll

About croque Shop

Croque Shop is a sausage roll hotspot, situated on a busy street in the centre of Brighton. There are plenty of other places for pastry close by but Croque Shop stands out for their competitive pricing and wonderful window displays. It’s a great place to grab a roll on the move, before continuing through the winding streets towards the coast.

1. Appearance

Did the sausage roll look appetising? Was it lovingly displayed in the shop window?

The sausage rolls were lovingly displayed in the shop window and caught my attention as well as that of other passers by. I liked that the prices were clearly displayed.

2. Price

How much did you pay for it? Was it good value for money?

£2.20 seemed like a fair price for the centre of Brighton.

7/10

3. Packaging

Was it carefully wrapped? Did it arrive home intact?

Classic brown paper bag with good grease transfer. A napkin would have helped but none were on offer.

8/10

4. Weight

Did it have a satisfying weight? Was it reassuringly dense?

This was a chubby sausage roll, far more squat that the traditional tube shape.

8/10

5. Warmth

Was it warm and ready to eat or cold on arrival?

This was the perfect warmth, ready to scoff right away with no cooling needed.

10/10

6. Pastry

Was it buttery and flaky? Did it hold together?

The pastry held together perfectly, I would have liked a touch more flakiness but it was buttery and wrapped the meat.

8/10

7. Quality of meat or filling

Was the filling substantial or did you mainly chew air?

This was pork and Chorizo. The Chorizo was there in little chunks but I would have liked some chilli in there too.

8/10

8. Flavour

Was the sausage roll delicious and well-seasoned?

Good flavour but it needed a bit more pepper. It was perfectly passable though.

7/10

9. Satisfaction

Were you left satisfied or wanting more?

I was very satisfied. The sausage roll didn’t leave me overly thirsty and was a perfect walking snack.

10. Bonus Points

Did anything warrant bonus points? Eg. a little pot of mustard or friendly service from the staff?

I had walked past many times before but this was the first time that Croque Shop didn’t have a queue. Bonus points are awarded for the efficient and friendly service. There were about eight varieties of sausage rolls, so bonus points for the range on offer too.
