About Cafe Coho
Cafe Coho is a fine addition to Hove’s sausage roll scene. Serving small plates alongside excellent coffee, the cafe is a superb spot to sit in the sun and watch the world.
Did the sausage roll look appetising? Was it lovingly displayed in the shop window?
The sausage rolls were proudly displayed on a wooden board, beside the window. I’d stopped in for an espresso but felt my attention drawn by the baked goods.
How much did you pay for it? Was it good value for money?
£3.85 for a squat sausage roll felt a little pricey but the it was clearly a top quality snack.
Was it carefully wrapped? Did it arrive home intact?
The roll was handed over in a brown paper bag and I put it straight in my pocket. The roll made it home intact, with a small amount of grease transfer and pastry flaking.
Did it have a satisfying weight? Was it reassuringly dense?
There was good heft.
Was it warm and ready to eat or cold on arrival?
The sausage roll had cooled on the display board but I was offered it heated, which is always a nice touch. Once home, I warmed it back up and this greatly improved the experience.
Was it buttery and flaky? Did it hold together?
The pastry was excellent, buttery, flaky and beautifully golden.
7. Quality of meat or filling
Was the filling substantial or did you mainly chew air?
The meat was top quality, it had lovely moisture and texture.
Was the sausage roll delicious and well-seasoned?
The cheese and the chutney in the filling added a delicious sweet and sour balance to the flavour.
Were you left satisfied or wanting more?
Top marks for satisfaction. I wasn’t expecting to have a sausage roll today and this was a wonderful surprise.
10. Bonus Points
Did anything warrant bonus points? Eg. a little pot of mustard or friendly service from the staff?
Bonus points for the excellent coffee and friendly service.
