The Brighton Sausage Co. Review

Brighton Sausage Co sausage roll

About The Brighton Sausage Co.

The Brighton Sausage Co. is a welcome sight for weary eyes after time spent wandering through Brighton’s busy North Laine. Nestled amongst clothing boutiques and homeware shops, the shop resembles a pantry and serves a wide array or meats, cheeses and condiments.

Address

28a Gloucester Rd, Brighton BN1 4AQ

1. Appearance

Did the sausage roll look appetising? Was it lovingly displayed in the shop window?

The window display housed a glorious selection of cheese and meats. The sausage rolls were in the oven when I arrived and served steaming hot soon after. I ate a beer stick whilst I was waiting.

8/10

2. Price

How much did you pay for it? Was it good value for money?

£2, bloody bargain. I would go every day if I lived closer.

9/10

3. Packaging

Was it carefully wrapped? Did it arrive home intact?

The snack was served in a brown paper bag with a napkin inside. There was no fussy branding on the bag and there was minimal grease transfer.

8/10

4. Weight

Did it have a satisfying weight? Was it reassuringly dense?

There was good density and a healthy pork to pastry ratio. This was at the meatier end of the the sausage rolls I’ve eaten.

8/10

5. Warmth

Was it warm and ready to eat or cold on arrival?

Piping hot and straight out the oven. The server warned me about the heat and so I waited five minutes before tucking in. Safety first!

9/10

6. Pastry

Was it buttery and flaky? Did it hold together?

It was a snack of flaky goodness. There was a lovely golden sheen to the pastry and I used the bag to catch the falling flakes.

9/10

7. Quality of meat or filling

Was the filling substantial or did you mainly chew air?

Excellent pork, nicely ground and wonderfully cooked. It didn’t have that pale grey colour that some sausage rolls have.

8/10

8. Flavour

Was the sausage roll delicious and well-seasoned?

There were classic sausage roll flavours going on but I would have liked a touch more pepper.

7/10

9. Satisfaction

Were you left satisfied or wanting more?

I was left sated and smiled the whole way home.

9/10

10. Bonus Points

Did anything warrant bonus points? Eg. a little pot of mustard or friendly service from the staff?

Being straight from the oven made the sausage roll all the better. It wasn’t greasy or overly salty, a fine sausage roll.

9/10
